Must-Have Colour of the Year Announced

Every year, Pantone’s colour experts search the globe for desirable new colour trends to predict the must-have ‘Colour of the Year’.

2022’s Colour of the Year has just been announced, and it’s already making a big impact!

Firstly, how does Pantone predict the Colour of the Year?

Pantone has a dedicated Colour Institute who look at the colours used across a wide range of industries (including travel, entertainment, technology and social media industries), and considers factors like consumer mood and the current environment, before confirming the colour.

For 23 years, Pantone’s Colour of the Year has influenced products, in everything from home furnishings to fashion and packaging. This year is no exception!

What is 2022’s Colour of the Year?

Pantone has just released the Colour of the Year for 2022 as Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, a new shade of violet infused blue, inspired by the pastel purple Periwinkle flower.

The latest colour trend is much more optimistic than the Ultimate Gray of 2021 and excitingly, is already working its way into eyewear design.

What does 2022’s colour choice mean?

Very Peri represents the changing world we are living in. Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute said; “Creating a new colour for the first time in the history of our Pantone Colour of the Year reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. The complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.

Now new colour possibilities are being explored and created, it means there are brighter times ahead.

What does it mean for the eyewear industry?

The new colour is said to have a joyous dynamic presence that encourages personal inventiveness and creativity, perhaps that’s why it works so well in eyewear design. The colour, Very Peri, creates a very striking look!

The brightness of the colour marries well with metal frames and creates an attention-grabbing look when used for thicker frames. Patients can also work this colour into their everyday outfits, to make a really stylish impact.
