An NHS-funded test is no different to our standard eye test. During your comprehensive check-up, we will not only determine your prescription for glasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases like glaucoma and macula degeneration.
Children may not realise they have a vision problem, so without routine tests there is a risk that any problems could go undiagnosed for months or years. It's important for eye problems to be identified as early as possible.
Treatments are available to help relieve the symptoms, which include eye drops to lubricate the eyes, medications to reduce any inflammation, and (if necessary) surgery to prevent tears from draining away easily.
Because you often cannot feel the pressure and the damage happens slowly, you may not know you have glaucoma until a lot of the damage has been done, so it is particularly important that you find out early.
